Refunds and Withdrawals

It is advised to review the Drop Policy before you drop any courses. A dropped/withdrawn course may affect your GPA, financial aid, and result in additional fees in future terms.

Refund for Dropped Classes

The refund policy for withdrawal or net credit load reduction for all students is as follows. All refunds are calculated in calendar days from the class start date.

The refund policy for one day courses shall be:

  • 100% if initiated before the day of class.
  • No refund as of the day the class begins.

The refund policy for classes two calendar days through eleven calendar days in length shall be:

  • 100% if initiated on or before the first day of class
  • No refund after the first day of class

The refund policy for regular session and dynamic extensive (longer than 16 week) session courses shall be:

  • 100% if initiated on or before the seventh day of class.
  • 50% if initiated on or before the fourteenth day of class.
  • No refund after the fourteenth day of class.

The refund policy for summer courses and all other courses and sessions (twelve days or longer) shall be:

  • 100% if initiated on or before the fourth day of class.
  • 50% if initiated on or before the seventh day of class.
  • No refund after the seventh day of class.

Note: For internet classes, the first class meeting is considered to be 8 a.m. of the first business day of the week in which the course began.

The refund policy for community education courses:

  • 100% if the college cancels the class.
  • If a student withdraws from a community education class at least seven days prior to the first day of class, the student will receive 100% refund.
  • No refund if the student drops the class fewer than seven days prior to the first day of class.

Non-resident tuition shall be refunded in conformity with the above schedule for load reduction to six credits or less and for withdrawal.

No refund shall be given for health and accident insurance premiums.

Exceptions to the Refund Policy

Requests for refunds must be filed within one year from the last day of the semester the student is appealing.

Exceptions require the approval of the President or designee.

In the following circumstances students may receive a full refund of all registration fees and tuition provided they withdraw any time during the semester and complete the required paperwork. Documentation of circumstance is required:

  • Deployment of the student in the United States Armed Forces;
  • Death or incapacitation resulting from an illness or injury of the student; or spouse, child, parent, or legal guardian of the student that prevents the student from returning to school
    for the remainder of the semester;
  • Verifiable error on the part of the institution.
  • Involuntary job transfer outside the service area of the institution as documented by employer, or
  • Other exceptional circumstances beyond the control of the institution or the student.

To apply for a refund under the above circumstances, see the Request for Refund Exception E-form.

Refund exceptions, which are approved, may be applied back to student's financial aid or other past due balances.

The grade of "W" (withdraw) will remain on student's transcript and may affect student's financial aid eligibility.

Refunds and Credit Balances

In the case of a refund or any other incidence of credit balance, any credits would be applied to other qualifying balance before being returned to the student.

Refund of Student Payments

Refunds for student payments will be issued back to a student after the add/drop period of the semester in which the payment was intended, then weekly thereafter. The student’s account will be reviewed prior to issue of the refund for accuracy, to make sure no corrections are necessary, and to ensure the refund is due to the student and not a 3rd party.

If the student paid by cash, check, or card in house, or by e-check online the student will be cut a check and it will be mailed to the address on file. Or if a student has enrolled in direct deposit the refund would be sent directly to his or her bank account. If a student paid by card online the refund would be returned to the card used to make the payment.

Check and e-check payments cannot be refunded until 30 days after the payment was received.

Refund of Financial Aid

Piggy Bank graphic.Refunds for financial aid will not be released until the Friday before instruction starts, then weekly thereafter as funds are received and applied. The student’s account will be reviewed prior to issue of the refund for accuracy and to ensure that disbursement amounts do not need to be adjusted, which can in some cases create a balance due instead of a refund. All financial aid students need to familiarize themselves with eligibility requirements.

Refunds will be issued as a paper check unless the student has enrolled in direct deposit, in which case the funds would be sent directly to the student’s bank account. Students must come in to their local branch office to retrieve a check release form from the Financial Aid Office. The student’s account will be reviewed at that time to ensure there has been no change in enrollment and that there is no balance due. They will then take the release form to the Controller’s Office where they will sign the release form and receive the check.

Students who receive federal financial aid to attend 澳门新甫京娱乐游戏在线下载 and withdraw from 100% of their courses during a semester are subject to federal regulations governing refund and repayment. These regulations pertain only to the federal financial aid (Title IV) received and have been written in terms of “earned” versus“unearned” aid. The corresponding applicable amounts are determined by the number of days a student attended classes prior to completely withdrawing. Students who only partially withdraw from courses during a semester will follow Great Basin College general refund policies.

Leave of Absence Policy

For financial aid purposes, prior to a student withdrawing from all classes, a student may, in writing, request a leave of absence from the Vice President for Student Services or designee. Only one leave may be granted in 12 months, and the leave may not exceed 180 days.
